CEFALU, SICILY
Some Days
by Philip Terman
Some days you have to turn off the news
and listen to the bird or truck
or the neighbor screaming out her life.
You have to close all the books and open
all the windows so that whatever swirls
inside can leave and whatever flutters
against the glass can enter. Some days
you have to unplug the phone and step
out to the porch and rock all afternoon
and allow the sun to tell you what to do.
The whole day has to lie ahead of you
like railroad tracks that drift off into gravel.
Some days you have to walk down the wooden
staircase through the evening fog to the river,
where the peach roses are closing,
sit on the grassy bank and wait for the two geese.
Thanks for taking the time to read,
Beautiful photos!

We were at lunch in Cefalu and it was so unexpected to see someone paddle boarding in the Mediterranean Sea.

Lovely poem, Bernadette and thank you for sharing. The sentiments are so true and this is how I feel when we are in Sweden – everything turned off. I’m off there tomorrow for a few days and altough I won’t see geese I might spot the occasional elk or badger! Cheers to Turning Off Moments in life!๐

Powerful rightful words. I am not familiar with the poet but I will be given that you have whet my appetite heartily with this example and I will order a volume or two from the library, turn off, tune out and sit outside in the sunshine reading his words. I thank you.

Bernadette I am sorry I missed it …. I generally read your Feminist Friday’s but you know life – it gets in the way. It is always my pleasure to read your posts – you have rare gifts in my humblest opinion and I am delighted that we are connected here. ๐๐ผ
