“Make new friends but keep the old.  One is silver but the other is gold.”

Do you remember this little song from the Brownie’s?  If you are very lucky you learned from an early age the value of girlfriends.  I have been fortunate my entire life to be blest with the most wonderful women friends.

Last week a group of six of us ran away from our responsibilities for a few days and spent some time laughing and relaxing and just being friends.

My dear friend, Fran, dubbed us the Golden Girls on Spring Break but I think we were truly golden – gold in the fact that we were women who have been friends for decades.  We have helped each other in sickness and in grief and we still laugh hysterically at how silly we can be (like when we checked into the wrong hotel the first night) and how much joy there is in this world to celebrate.

About Bernadette

I live in the small town of Haddonfield, NJ. I am at an age in my life when I seem to spend time thinking and musing about life. These musings are usually stimulated by my walks through Haddonfield, my reading of books and fellow bloggers, and my interaction with my group of fabulous family and friends.

  1. Yesterday I spent the afternoon sitting on an old friend’s porch chatting with the sunlight on our faces. It’s winter here in New England so 57 degree weather in February is unusual.(It’s snowing to day!) Old friends really are the best friends! The photo made me smile!

      1. And I appreciate it even more today because it’s cold, damp and wet here in RI. But -there’s always that cozy blanket and a fire in the fireplace to look forward to. (And Senior Salon!) Have a lovely day, Bernadette….

  2. I learned that song too. I never knew until about 15 years ago, how wonderful it was to have a “soul sister” as I call her. I have several good friends but only one so far with whom I can act like a nut with. We have some similar experiences in life and both were/are nurses. She is a real treasure!! I can’t imagine having 5 more friends like her! Lol
