WALKING THE HIGH LINE

Dom and I recently took a walk on the High Line in New York.  Don’t you just love that name High Line.  It takes you back  to the days when jazz songs were written about different lines in New York, like Take the A Train.

The High Line is a public park built on a historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side. It runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to West 34th Street, between 10th and 12th Avenues.

If you get a chance to visit New York City you should really treat yourself to this walk.  It is an amazing example of urban reclamation.  Here is a photo of what it looked like when it was an abandoned rail line

It is amazing to see how it was beautified.

    Another reason to visit NYC in retirement! I had heard of the High Line, but had no idea what it was. Thanks for the addition to my bucket list.

    I’ve really wanted to visit the High Line for years but haven’t done so yet– I was just in Paris and didn’t even manage to visit Promenade Plante, the inspiration for it. Darn it! Well, I guess I’ll just have to schedule a few more trips in my future! Thanks for sharing!

    The High Line is my favorite goal in New York since I read about this path months ago in a german newspaper. For the moment I have to listen to your report and the report of my son Ben who came back home from New York two days ago after spending 5 weeks there with his family. Full of interesting stories and fed with new energy.
    The wooden way reminds me of one path in Jerusalem in the German Colony along the way of an old railwayroute.
